The purpose of the foundation is to promote science and research, art and culture, as well as education and training in Switzerland. The foundation's purpose is realized in particular through: 1. Supporting research and teaching at the University and ETH in Zurich, including the awarding of research contracts and promoting universities through the establishment or co-financing of professorships. 2. Supporting the Kunsthaus Zurich and other art institutions in Zurich through the organization of exhibitions, awarding of prizes, distribution of scholarships, and financing of commissions. 3. Preserving and maintaining cultural values, such as art collections. 4. Promoting cultural institutions, such as theaters, museums, and libraries. 5. Supporting institutions that aim to preserve cultural assets, animals, and the environment, such as the Zurich Zoo. A prerequisite for supporting and/or promoting an institution or organization is its pursuit of non-profit goals.
