The foundation is non-profit and primarily aims to promote science and teaching at the University of Basel, in principle across all faculties, with the allocation of funds to individual faculties and the creation of focal points being decided by the foundation board at its discretion. This promotion can take the form of financing or co-financing a special professorship for a certain period of time or permanently at a faculty, department or institute of the University of Basel. The foundation can also provide research, project or further education contributions as well as other services to lecturers (full professors, associate professors, titular professors, assistant professors, tenure track lecturers, private lecturers, lecturers, etc.) and prospective lecturers (habilitated persons, etc.); approve contributions for services to science and teaching at other universities, or also provide contributions to promote education or other cultural concerns within or outside the university. It is solely up to the foundation board to decide whether and to what extent the foundation will focus solely on the main purpose or also pursue individual or all secondary purposes.
