The foundation aims to preserve global freshwater biodiversity and maintain the integrity of freshwater ecosystems, and is locally active with its own representations through a network of independent, member-based organizations and national non-governmental organizations; these are democratically led and share the global vision of baiji.org foundation and carry it out. With awareness of these goals, the foundation is committed to: making the threat to the Chinese river dolphin Baiji known to the public and encouraging, designing, coordinating and implementing or financing measures to prevent the extinction of the Baiji; promoting sustainability in the use of global freshwater resources for the benefit of all life on earth; preventing the extinction of any living being in freshwater and working to maintain and, if possible, improve the habitats of all freshwater species. The foundation is committed to preserving and, if necessary, improving the essential living conditions for freshwater species and integrating conservation efforts for freshwater biodiversity into the sustainable lifestyles of the population; collecting, managing and distributing financial resources for the conservation of freshwater biodiversity, ensuring long-term requirements for the protection of freshwater biodiversity and ecosystems, and providing means to meet these requirements; ensuring the financing of freshwater conservation efforts or projects and research and promoting the exchange of scientists, specialists, students and other persons - especially from developing countries - and engaging globally in the framework of conferences, seminars, lectures, meetings and discussion groups for freshwater biodiversity; protecting, acquiring, managing and commercially operating land, waters, properties or other resources; serving as a global communication platform for the protection of freshwater biodiversity, promoting awareness of the need for protection for freshwater biodiversity and ecosystems, and offering support in the provision, production and dissemination of suitable materials for educational purposes, campaigns, exhibitions and media (especially interactive media and the internet), to anchor and promote the growth and development of efforts to protect freshwater biodiversity; ensuring moral and financial support for the protection of global freshwater biodiversity through the baiji.org global partnership network, appointing representatives and establishing and cooperating with associated or affiliated organizations worldwide, and supporting other organizations in the field of freshwater conservation and engaging in legal, financial and commercial areas of work and other activities for the purpose of baiji.org; to fulfill its mission, which is updated from time to time by the foundation council in accordance with the above goals.
