The foundation's purpose is to use its income to a) ensure the personal maintenance, housing and office expenses of the legitimate Bishop of Basel, to the extent that the state does not provide sufficient support for his personal and official needs, as well as the maintenance of the clergy of the Episcopal Chancellery. b) to serve purely ecclesiastical and charitable purposes, to the extent that these are not claimed in the sense of lit. a, and c) in the event of removal or expulsion by secular power, to serve the Roman Catholic Bishop of Basel as a pension.
