The foundation is a Swiss, non-profit and non-commercial organization. Its purpose is to provide the Zurich Zoo with Hyacinth macaws for breeding and management according to the highest biological and veterinary medical principles, and for stocking aviaries. The Zurich Zoo operates the breeding program with the goal of preserving it in the long term. This is intended to contribute to the conservation of Hyacinth macaws and make them accessible to the general public. The foundation can also donate animals to other institutions, zoological gardens or private owners. As a secondary purpose, the foundation also contributes to supporting efforts to conserve Hyacinth macaws and promote public understanding of animal welfare issues. All proceeds from the sale of animals are to be used again for the purpose of this foundation. The foundation has a non-profit character and does not pursue commercial goals.
