The foundation has a non-profit character. It does not pursue any commercial purpose and does not strive for profit. It is politically and religiously neutral. The foundation aims to support needy natural and legal persons for social, humanitarian and cultural purposes. The foundation's activities are mainly focused on the territory of Switzerland. In individual cases, only needy natural persons and tax-exempt legal entities in developing and emerging countries may be considered for activities abroad. The social and humanitarian purpose of the foundation is to be achieved in particular through direct or indirect support for: people affected by poverty, in addition to state benefits; physically or mentally disabled persons; physically or mentally ill persons; refugees. The cultural purpose of the foundation is to be achieved in particular through direct or indirect support for: the awarding of scholarships or one-time contributions to artists; vernissages, exhibitions or work contributions to artists. It can also extend its activities to other areas, provided they are in line with the aforementioned purpose. Details, in particular the definition of neediness, are set out in a regulation to be issued by the foundation board.
