The foundation primarily aims to promote mutual understanding between continental European and Anglo-Saxon mindsets and to contribute to bridging the existing differences between the different mentalities. To this end, it supports institutions and projects in the fields of higher education and culture. The foundation particularly promotes contacts between Swiss and American, and possibly other Anglo-Saxon universities, and other higher education institutions in the fields of economics, law, natural sciences, medicine (especially orthopedics), management, and art. To achieve this, it awards scholarships and other forms of assistance to Swiss students, postgraduates, teaching staff, researchers, and artists. The aim is to introduce these individuals to Anglo-Saxon mindsets. Conversely, the foundation can also support Anglo-Saxon students, postgraduates, teaching staff, experts, researchers, and artists, who can also receive scholarships and other forms of assistance, to introduce them to continental European mindsets. Secondary, the foundation can also support charitable institutions and projects, particularly in the canton of Basel-Stadt, which support Swiss citizens in need who cannot receive help elsewhere and cannot overcome their difficulties in any other way.
