The purpose of the association is, in particular, to develop and promote standardized communication protocols based on DLMS (Device Language Message Specification) and the COSEM (Companion Specification for Energy Metering) object model, as well as their further development with the aim of expanding the installed base of interoperable products by (a) developing, administering, and promoting protocol specifications that can be widely adopted by industry and international standardization bodies, in order to increase demand for compatible and interoperable products that meet these specifications (b) managing certain licenses for the use of trademarks, copyrights, and other intellectual property (IP) (c) collaborating with national, European, and international standardization bodies (SDOs) with the aim of standardizing the protocols according to regional and local needs (d) promoting and promoting the protocols to a broad international audience, consisting of potential users, standardization organizations, and scientific institutions, through participation in exhibitions, conferences, symposia, and similar regional and local events (e) developing and providing working tools in the areas of pre-qualification and qualification, qualification conditions, criteria, and methods for accepting product qualification templates and product test results; conducting qualification assessments for product qualification (f) developing protection instruments (g) organizing innovation events with scientific institutions to promote innovations using the protocol (h) developing and organizing association programs exclusively reserved for members, such as (i) coordinating the exchange of experiences in implementing the protocol between association members through participation in the association's own PlugFest program, (ii) issuing a product qualification certificate to association members to confirm conformity and compatibility, as well as authorizing qualified products to use the association's test seal and to embed the association's IP after successful participation in the association's own qualification program or accreditation of third parties to conduct the qualification program, (iii) conducting training events for association members with the aim of promoting knowledge about best practices for implementing and applying the protocols in different applications and products through the association's own training program or accrediting third parties to conduct the training program.
