To provide financial support abroad and in Switzerland to any person or institution wishing to: promote the education of German nationals or other nationalities, including but not limited to, in humanistic or spiritual values representative of the best of German culture; promote entrepreneurship and income-generating activities (including, but not limited to, through education), primarily in developing countries; promote academic teaching, education, and research, particularly, but not limited to, in the broader field of health, as well as related projects; and promote artistic and cultural projects (particularly, but not limited to, in relation to the German language or culture); the foundation may also develop and carry out the aforementioned activities itself; the foundation operates without geographical boundaries; in particular, it is not necessary for projects to take place on Swiss territory; the selection of programs is made without discrimination based on race, gender, or sexual orientation; however, each project must be compatible with local customs, as well as with applicable national and international laws in the territory where the project is implemented.
