The purpose of the foundation is to promote the efforts and work of the founders and, in particular, to support the RKD - Nederlands Instituut voor Kunstgeschiedenis, as long as this institution fulfills its cultural role and remains true to its current purpose, which is to manage the collection known as the Collection Frits-Lugt and to expand it for all art enthusiasts, to maintain and keep up-to-date the library entrusted to the RKD - Nederlands Instituut voor Kunstgeschiedenis, to continue ongoing work and publications and to undertake new valuable work and publications, as well as to organize exhibitions, to preserve and maintain the artistic institution of the building in Paris and the building itself. Any surpluses from the foundation's income may be used to award scholarships for education and research. If the purpose mentioned here cannot be pursued due to political or other events, the board will seek another use for its resources, as far as possible in the same spirit.
