The Foundation encourages the dignified and expert treatment of the disabled, sick and incapacitated, at home or in suitable institutions, secular or religious, with direct or indirect subsidies and assistance to institutions for the elderly or for the injured and disabled, for care, general and special therapies, rehabilitation and research in the part of the Canton of Ticino and the Sottoceneri that lies south of Lake Lugano to the east to Valmara and Val d'Intelvi, to the west to Ponte Tresa and Lavena, in the enclave of Campione d'Italia and in the Lombardy region between Como and Varese, particularly on the border with the Mendrisiotto. Assistance may be given to individual institutions in this area that improve their facilities for the disabled, and will be provided through subsidies to the actual expenses incurred by them for works previously encouraged by the foundation, one-time subsidies paid in installments. Institutions that take in people who are unable to care for themselves due to age or illness, or who have no autonomy of movement, are eligible for assistance, as well as those that conduct research to alleviate the suffering and illness of such disabled individuals.
