The Foundation oversees the activities of the Swiss Institute in Rome (hereinafter: Institute), located at Villa Maraini-Sommaruga in Rome, donated by Mrs. Carolina Maraini-Sommaruga to the Swiss Confederation and made available to it. The Foundation is non-profit. The Institute aims to: Provide young Swiss people with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge or art, to undertake research or original work, in a center of classical culture; Encourage scientific or artistic activity in Switzerland, offering scholars and artists favorable conditions for staying in Italy; Contribute to the development of scientific and cultural relations between Switzerland and Italy. The Foundation may participate in useful or necessary initiatives to achieve its purpose.
