The foundation aims to establish and operate an academic institute for basic research and teaching in the field of biomedicine. The tasks of the foundation include, in particular, its own research activities, namely in the fields of neurodegeneration. Projects to research the causes, progression, diagnostics, prevention, and therapy of neurodegenerative diseases as well as other diseases of the nervous system are at the forefront. The foundation can, in particular, set up and operate its own research positions, laboratories, study centers, or similar facilities; conduct preclinical and clinical studies as well as other scientific investigations in the field of the science of the aging brain; plan, carry out, evaluate research projects, and publish the results; apply for, manage, and license patents and other intellectual property rights. The foundation pursues exclusively and directly charitable purposes. It is not profit-oriented. The foundation's assets and their proceeds are to be used exclusively for the pursuit of the foundation's purpose. Organs of the foundation and persons close to these organs may not benefit from any economic advantages. In addition to its own research activities, the foundation can also support third-party projects that correspond to the foundation's purpose in a subordinate manner, in particular through contributions to research projects, infrastructure, the awarding of scholarships and prizes, or other promotional instruments in favor of neuropathological and neurodegenerative research.
