The foundation aims to pursue non-profit purposes in the field of promoting South Asian artists and researching and disseminating South Asian art. The foundation also aims, but not exclusively, to strengthen the Rietberg Museum as an international research center for Indian art with a focus on painting, and thereby promote the global recognition of the Rietberg Museum's India collections. Furthermore, the foundation aims to provide training and further education for young researchers (especially from India and Pakistan) in the field of South Asian art history and enable research work on original artworks from the Rietberg Museum's collection. To promote this purpose, the foundation publishes scientific writings on all topics related to South Asian art. It is intended to integrate the publication of the journal and special volumes ARTIBUS ASIAE into the foundation. To achieve its non-profit purpose, the foundation can also: - employ researchers and other natural persons; - carry out and support projects and provide funding and assistance to individuals and organizations that fall within the foundation's purpose; - establish other legal entities (such as associations, foundations, companies) or acquire participations in such entities or become a member of purpose-related associations; - enter into cooperations of a content-related or structural nature with other legal or natural persons. The foundation board can set priorities within these activities at its discretion. The foundation has a non-profit character, does not pursue any commercial purposes, and does not strive for profit. It operates in the general interest of Switzerland and can also provide services abroad within the scope of its purpose.
