The GSMA is a non-profit organization with the following objectives: to promote and develop GSM networks and the GSM platform for international roaming; to provide standardized services (e.g. voice, data, multimedia, etc.); to serve as the core of other systems (e.g. UMTS, IMT 2000 [FPLMTS], DECT) that use different wireless access methods (e.g. TDMA, CDMA); and to serve as the core of new applications (e.g. telematics, etc.); to promote and develop standards and specifications that facilitate the spread of wireless services and applications in the public interest; to promote a regulatory, legislative and marketing agenda in support of the interests of its members; to organize trade fairs and provide managed services, in accordance with the interests of its members; to provide support and leadership services for industry initiatives for the benefit of its members and the wireless ecosystem; and to take any other initiatives necessary, suitable or typical to achieve the aforementioned objectives.
