The Association was created to strengthen and modernize healthcare systems to ensure medicine and health for all, regardless of wealth or place of residence. This requires at least six complementary areas of research as an exemplary goal of i2TEAMM Europe: Adequate diagnosis of multiple myeloma and precursor diseases. Adequate understanding of the pathogenesis and Achilles' heel of multiple myeloma. Adequate treatment options. Adequate choice of compounds for specific situations. This includes, but is not limited to: molecular profiling of malignant plasma cells and the bone marrow microenvironment to guide treatment in relation to specific alterations such as del 17p or risk assessment (e.g., highly proliferative myeloma); evaluation of minimal residual disease and application in specific clinical contexts such as treatment interruption or initiation of maintenance therapy; diversity as exemplified but not limited to ethnic, geographic, gender, or other disparities. Adequate access to compounds, e.g., in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), including, for example, Africa. Potential strategies for improvement include, but are not limited to: economic and disease modeling, policy definition at national and international levels, direct interaction, e.g., conducting specific clinical trials in LMIC. Support and education (including, e.g., conducting trials and GCP training) in collaboration with established patient organizations for: patients and patient caregivers, medical staff (e.g., physicians, nurses, clinical trial personnel).
