The IAF promotes and supports the creation, implementation and ongoing adaptation of new developments in training and further education in the financial sector. The IAF takes initiatives for the creation of new, forward-looking training courses, professional fields and professional profiles in the financial sector and their quality assurance. It can support and promote initiatives by third parties. In particular, the IAF promotes and supports the dissemination and quality assurance of private financial planning and consulting, especially within the framework of the Swiss Federal Act on Vocational Education and Training and the resulting professional examinations for the acquisition of a federal certificate of competence and the advanced professional examinations for the acquisition of a federal diploma. It can assume sponsorship in the sense of Article 28, paragraph 2 of the Federal Act on Vocational Education and Training of 13 December 2002 for this purpose. For the purpose of quality assurance, the IAF can, after examination by the Board of Directors, certify training courses, professional fields or professional profiles in the financial sector by awarding diplomas to graduates or accrediting providers with the IAF label. The IAF works with other organizations in the financial and education sectors. It coordinates training initiatives and aims to integrate successful certifications into further structures. The IAF promotes and supports the international anchoring and coordination of quality assurance in the financial sector. The IAF creates the "IAF Code of Honor" including ethical principles and ensures its observance. The IAF promotes research and development (R&D) in the financial sector, particularly in the area of private financial planning. The IAF organizes meetings and events for the exchange of information and experience as well as to promote the purpose of the association. The IAF Interest Group for Training in the Financial Sector is politically and denominationally neutral.
