The defense and promotion of artistic freedom of expression and the preservation of cultural heritage. The foundation is politically neutral and its activities must never serve as a means of political propaganda. The foundation will never participate in political campaigns in favor of or against a person running for public office. To achieve its goals, the ILA carries out the following activities: directly assisting artists whose freedom of expression has been restricted and supporting artists who have demonstrated their commitment to progressive social change and human rights; helping threatened artists, including through the organization of evacuations, asylum requests, or residence permits in Switzerland or abroad; working with artists to defend their art, promote cultural exchanges, improve the conditions of artists in their country of origin, and protect their ability to express themselves creatively in Switzerland and around the world; organizing events that allow artists to perform in Switzerland and around the world; facilitating the obtaining of visas and work permits for artists in Switzerland and around the world; creating and maintaining circles of reflection on artistic freedom; creating and maintaining an information and knowledge-sharing system on censorship and its consequences; creating and making available to the public platforms for dissemination and exchange with artists from around the world; defending the interests of artists limited in their freedom of expression before the United Nations and non-governmental humanitarian organizations; developing the network with galleries, theaters, universities, and cultural institutions in Geneva, Switzerland, and around the world; initiating and implementing research projects and publications to raise public awareness of the essential nature of artistic freedom in every state, regardless of its political structure.
