The objectives of the IPMA are: to develop project, programme and portfolio management, collectively known as project management as a profession; to increase global awareness of project management as a key factor for the success of organisations and society; to increase professionalism among practitioners; to recognize individual and organisational project management competences through internationally recognized certification systems; and to support member associations in applying project management knowledge and standards nationally and internationally. The IPMA is an international, non-profit organisation that achieves its objectives for the project management profession by working for and through its network of member associations. The activities of the IPMA include: a) founding, developing and supporting member associations; b) promoting communication and networking among all member associations; c) hosting conferences and other forums for the exchange of knowledge and experience; d) developing and providing certifications in project management and related organisational competences with international recognition; e) promoting education and training in project management; f) promoting research and development in project management; g) facilitating global cooperation in project management; h) creating international standards; i) running campaigns and lobbying to raise awareness of project management and its benefits; j) presenting the success of project management through awards and other media; k) developing and maintaining a portfolio of products and services that meet the changing needs of member associations and the profession.
