The foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting contemporary art, primarily by preserving, conserving, and making accessible the works of contemporary artists (mainly paintings, drawings, installations, sculptures, video creations, and photographs). The foundation fulfills its purpose by establishing, maintaining, and operating a "Schaulager" in Münchenstein, i.e., a specially designed and equipped building with the necessary climate and security systems, allowing for the storage, conservation, and accessibility of contemporary art works. This includes ensuring access to the foundation's designated contemporary art works for particularly interested individuals, such as artists, art historians, art experts, students in upper classes, and researchers, as well as organized groups and individuals who demonstrate a special interest and need, and meet the foundation's conditions. The foundation also cooperates with cultural institutions dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of contemporary art, primarily with the Emanuel Hofmann-Stiftung, Basel, the Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basel, and the Öffentliche Kunstsammlung Basel. Additionally, the foundation may engage in the following activities: preparing, organizing, and executing exhibitions and other presentations of contemporary art works; acquiring, preserving, and, if necessary, selling contemporary art works; providing contributions to culturally relevant projects, particularly in the fields of visual arts, photography, and video production; providing contributions to promote contemporary art in universities and museums, such as research, exhibition, project, and audience contributions; and providing further education contributions or contributions for other services to lecturers, prospective lecturers (habilitants), and graduates of postgraduate studies.
