The foundation pursues its non-profit purpose mainly in Switzerland in the following four areas of activity: The first area of activity includes the promotion and support of creative, research and educational activities mainly in Switzerland in the field of science and technology. Within this area of activity, the following are examples: (a) development of new technologies, in particular to promote sustainability and ecology; (b) promotion of ecological and sustainable mobility. The above list is not exhaustive and has an exemplary character. The second area of activity includes the fight against absolute poverty in Switzerland and mainly abroad through the promotion of sustainable ecosystems and access to high-quality education. In this context, equal participation of women in the workforce and the protection of women in need are to be assigned a special significance. The third area of activity includes the promotion and support of creative, research and educational activities mainly in Switzerland in the field of culture. Within this area of activity, the following are examples: (a) visual arts; (b) music and theater; (c) film; (d) literature. The above list is not exhaustive and has an exemplary character. The fourth area of activity includes the preservation and promotion of the diversity of flora and fauna and natural landscapes in Switzerland. With regard to all purposes, both individuals or projects can be supported and grants can be made to institutions that are active in the corresponding non-profit areas. The foundation board is free to allocate the funds. The main emphasis of the allocations should be on areas one (science and technology) and two (poverty reduction and women's empowerment). The principles of sustainability, efficiency and effectiveness must be taken into account when using the funds. The foundation is free to establish one or more so-called sub-foundations and to equip them with funds for the specific promotion of individual areas of activity, and to appoint their foundation boards according to the required competence requirements in the respective areas of activity. Such sub-foundations shall also bear the name Martin+Marianne Haefner as a component and their statutes shall essentially correspond to these statutes. The foundation and any sub-foundations may not pursue commercial or self-help purposes and must be politically and denominationally neutral.
