The association was founded by the users and developers of the open-source software MATSim (www.matsim.org). It is an agent-based simulation of transport demand and traffic flows. The software is designed for the planning and analysis of transport systems. It is used in research and industry, both in industrialized and developing countries. The association has, among other things, the following objectives and tasks: Maintenance and further development of the open-source software MATSim; Publication and testing of regular annual releases of the code and test cases on www.matsim.org; Creation and sale of commercial licenses; Integration of new features resulting from ongoing research within the budget; Customer-specific updates and adaptations of the software against reimbursement of full costs; Organization and preparation of regular meetings, such as annual user meetings for the exchange of knowledge and experience among worldwide users or events targeting the developer community; Organization and preparation of courses and tutorials on the software; Ownership, maintenance, and development of the website www.matsim.org; Representation of the software in relevant industry and government groups or committees; Maintenance of an open-access database with all relevant publications about the software, such as application examples, tests, reports, and scientific papers. The association can perform all activities related to its purpose. It can cooperate with non-profit organizations with a similar purpose or participate in them after the board and general assembly have approved its form.
