The foundation supports research and education in Switzerland, for example in physics for the exploration of space and particle and astrophysics. It works together with Swiss universities such as the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) or the University of Bern. This supports the scientific success of Switzerland. It can also support education in other ways and help to maintain the level of education in Switzerland as high as possible. It can also award prizes for this purpose. As a secondary activity, it can help gifted individuals in need in education. The foundation only performs non-profit or public tasks and does not pursue any commercial purpose. The foundation does not assume tasks that are the responsibility of the state and should be financed by it.
