The purpose of the foundation is the preservation, development, research and dissemination of the written cultural heritage stored in Switzerland. The support provided by the foundation is intended to serve the processing and making accessible of collections in this field and the establishment of the necessary infrastructure (for example, but not exclusively, collection building, collection maintenance, development, digitization, dissemination or research). Institutions and private individuals in Switzerland who take intensive care of their collections and make them publicly accessible can be supported. Priority should be given to the Public Library of the University of Basel (Basel University Library). Institutions and private individuals can also be considered for projects that are substantially based on such collections (again primarily the Basel University Library). The foundation will be active throughout Switzerland. The foundation has a non-profit character and does not pursue any commercial purpose.
