The foundation supports private or public institutions whose main purpose is animal welfare. Primarily, the foundation's assets are to be used to prevent human violence against animals. To a lesser extent, animals in distress are to be helped in general. The institutions receiving grants are to focus particularly on protecting animals in France and other southern European countries, Switzerland, and Denmark. The grants to the institutions are to be made from the profit generated by the foundation's assets in the preceding financial year (January 1 to December 31). If, in a financial year, no grants can be made due to a lack of profit in the previous year, grants of up to 10% of the value of the foundation's assets as of December 31 of the previous financial year may be awarded in that financial year. The foundation operates exclusively for public benefit and does not pursue any commercial or self-help purposes.
