The foundation aims to preserve, restore and maintain the locomotives and corresponding rolling stock of the founder and its predecessor railways. The foundation carries out all activities related to its purpose, in particular (but not exhaustively): to preserve, maintain, supplement and make accessible to the public the vehicles entrusted to it; to ensure a meaningful connection and cohesion of the collections; to make the collections usable for the interests of the general public and science; to cooperate with museums, organizations and associations with similar goals nationally and internationally; to lend, rent or sell the vehicles entrusted to it temporarily or permanently, provided they do not serve its activities; to purchase or accept as a gift or loan (deposit) objects from third parties within the means available to it. The foundation operates primarily in Central Switzerland within the scope of its purpose. It has a non-profit character, i.e. it does not pursue commercial purposes and does not strive for profit. The foundation can establish and participate in companies to achieve the foundation's purpose. Furthermore, it can acquire, develop and sell real estate.
