The foundation aims to promote clinical surgical research, particularly so-called outcome research in surgical and related fields, as well as in accompanying related sciences, to improve and control the quality of surgical patient care. This should ensure optimal treatment through continuous collection and analysis of clinical and patient-related outcome data. Research activities are focused primarily in the canton of Basel-Stadt, but can also be extended to the whole of Switzerland or abroad. In pursuit of this purpose, the foundation can in particular promote projects for the collection of clinical data, comparative studies, cost-benefit analyses, creation of databases, and creation of predictive models. The scientific discourse on treatment outcomes and training in patient-oriented outcome research should be promoted. These projects can be designed inter-institutionally, inter-professionally, and inter-disciplinarily.
