The cooperative pursues the purpose of providing its members with good and affordable housing through joint self-help and co-responsibility. The Wohnhotel Cooperative was founded in 1931 with the aim of building and operating a residential building for single and working women. In principle, only women are allowed to live in the cooperative's properties. The cooperative promotes coexistence in the sense of overall social responsibility and mutual solidarity. It seeks to achieve this purpose through: a) the acquisition of building land and building rights; b) the construction and acquisition of properties that meet the cooperative's modern housing needs; c) careful and ongoing maintenance and periodic renovation of existing buildings; d) the construction of replacement new buildings when existing buildings can no longer be renovated in an economically justifiable manner; e) the use of funding instruments under the federal housing promotion law or corresponding cantonal and communal laws; f) the administration and rental of apartments on a cost-rent basis; g) the promotion of cooperative activities in the settlements; h) ideological and material support for efforts aimed at affordable and good housing. The cooperative's activity is non-profit and not profit-oriented. The cooperative can participate in companies and organizations with the same or similar objectives. It can be a member of wohnbaugenossenschaften switzerland, association of non-profit housing developers.
