The foundation supports efforts and projects that, on a non-profit basis, directly or indirectly contribute to the promotion of culture, education and science in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. In exceptional cases, foundation funds can also be used in neighboring cantons. Individuals in need of educational assistance may also be considered. Excluded are subsidies for solving tasks that are legally the responsibility of the canton or municipalities. However, if it is a matter of tasks that the public sector is not obligated but authorized to fulfill, subsidies are permissible. Within the framework of the above purpose, the foundation board is authorized to issue more detailed instructions on the use of available foundation funds in a regulation.
