The objective of the IBSF is to: promote and develop the sports of Bobsleigh and Skeleton at all levels throughout the world and supervise and direct all their activities at the international level; establish and maintain friendly relations with and between the Member Federations; develop links with other International Federations, National Governments, Intergovernmental Organizations and International and National Non-Governmental Organizations in order to promote the interests of sport in general and Bobsleigh and Skeleton in particular throughout the world; support, within the limits of its competence, the objectives of the Member Federations; promote cooperation and mutual understanding between athletes of all countries; manage and control participation in the Winter Olympic Games, World and Continental Championships, World and Continental Cups and other competitions or events approved by the Congress or the Executive Committee, and confirm the results; establish rules for all competitions approved by the IBSF; recognize only those competitions which conform to these Statutes and the rules of the IBSF and ensure that these Statutes and all IBSF rules are respected during these competitions; serve as the supreme authority for all matters concerning the sports of Bobsleigh and Skeleton and their rules and regulations; represent the sports of the IBSF to external interests; serve as an intermediary and direct the activity of Bobsleigh and Skeleton at the international level; take into account the protection of the environment and promote sustainable development; promote and protect all rights related to IBSF activities worldwide, including property rights, intellectual property rights such as copyrights, trademarks and logos; govern and regulate the sport at the international level, and recognize National Federations to govern and regulate the sport at the national level, in accordance with and in respect of the supreme authority of the IBSF over this sport; protect the independence and autonomy of the IBSF and its Members in the governance and regulation of the sport, including the exercise of the right to democratic elections without any external influence; preserve the integrity of the sport, including (without limitation) by adopting Rules which implement the World Anti-Doping Code and other appropriate codes of conduct and ensuring that these Rules and codes are applied in all Bobsleigh and Skeleton competitions approved by the IBSF and/or a Member (as the case may be).
