Preservation of the historically significant family assets, including portraits, memorabilia and archives, originating from the families of Christoph Burckhardt zum Segerhof, Leonhard Burckhardt zum Ernauerhof and the Wettstein family, as testimonies to the history of Basel. In pursuit of this purpose, the foundation shall make the items of public interest available to suitable institutions such as museums and archives as loans, in order to make them accessible to the public. The foundation enables and promotes the historical research of the foundation's assets, particularly the archives. The foundation's objects may be made available to members of the founder's family and their relatives on a temporary loan basis, provided that there is a guarantee for their proper treatment and safety. Similarly, the foundation's council may decide to permanently loan portraits that are not of overriding public interest to members of the founder's family and their relatives or to other descendants of the persons depicted, provided that there is a guarantee for their proper treatment and safety.
