The foundation aims to support the University Library of Basel in the acquisition of books (texts, secondary literature, journals, primarily in Old Icelandic and Old Norwegian) for the field of Old Scandinavian Studies (Old Norse Studies, which deals with the period from the beginnings to and including the Middle Ages). Additions from the antiquarian sector should only be made if they are not associated with excessively high costs. If, after the seamless implementation of the corresponding purchases, something remains, it should be used to purchase modern Scandinavian literature, etc., so that the University Library of Basel can begin to build a modern Scandinavian library.
