The foundation aims to promote a) science, research and teaching, particularly with regard to the methodological and practical foundations of economic and entrepreneurial behavior that are oriented towards the purpose of an undertaking and its social objectives, rather than primarily towards profit; b) the democratic state and civic engagement; c) education in the areas of foundation activity and in the sense of the foundation's purpose. The foundation will also participate directly or indirectly in companies as a holding company or connect with companies in other ways (collectively, the "Purpose Companies"). Within the framework of these participations, the foundation will ensure that the Purpose Rules are complied with, in particular that (1) the ownership function is tied to the entrepreneurial function and (2) returns are means to pursue the company's purpose and do not become an end in themselves. The foundation supports companies that operate in the sense of the foundation's purpose in succession planning and initiates dialogue formats between companies. The foundation's primary area of activity is the Basel region. The foundation can also be active in the rest of Switzerland and abroad. The foundation is non-profit and not profit-oriented.
