The purpose of the association is to promote medical research in the field of functional gastrointestinal disorders, particularly SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) and IMO (Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth), as well as to support affected individuals. To this end, the association organizes public fundraising events, actions, lectures, media campaigns, and cooperations with research institutions and companies. A change of the association's purpose requires the consent of all members of the association. 50% of the donations received go to the foundation fund established at the Inselspital Bern to promote scientific projects in the field of SIBO/IMO. The remaining 50% are used for the direct support of affected individuals, in particular for the provision of diagnostic tests and therapy support. The association does not pursue any commercial purposes and does not aim to make a profit. It operates on a non-profit basis.
