The costs in the healthcare system are continuously rising, smaller maternity departments with fewer than 300 births per year in hospitals as well as small birth houses are being closed. In recent years, there has been a centralization of obstetric care in most cantons. As a result, the freedom of choice for women regarding the place of birth is significantly reduced. By promoting outpatient obstetric care, the choice for women is increased despite the centralization. Midwife-led outpatient births can contribute to cost reduction. Against this background, the foundation aims to expand and promote salutogenic, outpatient obstetric care, to ensure the quality of care in collaboration with partner hospitals and universities, and to enable access to these services for as many healthy pregnant women as possible. Furthermore, it aims to enable the bundling of resources from hospitals and birth houses through collaboration. This implements the principle of outpatient care before inpatient care in the healthcare system. Evidence-based, salutogenic, outpatient midwifery care promotes and ensures women's health in general and has the potential to contribute to cost reduction in the healthcare system. Through the strategic alliance and proximity to the partner hospital, safety for women is increased and a real choice for expectant parents is created. At the same time, women and the general public should be informed in a scientifically sound manner about salutogenic care and its benefits, thus anchoring outpatient, midwife-accompanied birth as a cost-effective, health-supportive, and safe option for mother and child in society. The foundation is active throughout Switzerland according to its purpose.
