The foundation aims to provide financial and ideological support to the Versuchsstollen Hagerbach AG (VSH AG) based in Flums as a research infrastructure of national importance for the use of underground space. It particularly oversees the use of funds granted by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SBFI and ensures that these funds are used exclusively in accordance with the recognition of the VSH AG as a research infrastructure of national importance granted by the SBFI on January 1, 2025, and possibly extended. Criteria defined in the regulations must be taken into account. Any additional financial resources available to or received by the foundation can be used, in accordance with the criteria set out in the organizational regulations, for activities, projects, and the construction and operation of infrastructure for experimental and research work of the VSH AG (preferably in the Hagerbach test gallery). It is to be managed according to commercial principles. The foundation ensures through its organization that the necessary scientific evaluation and the associated monitoring of the use of the foundation's assets is in accordance with the organizational regulations.
