The foundation, which is fully funded by the animal welfare association of the city of St. Gallen and its surroundings at the time of its establishment, aims to operate or support an animal shelter or another institution for the reception and care of ownerless, unwanted or distressed animals, including the necessary veterinary medical measures, within the area of activity of the animal welfare association of the city of St. Gallen and its surroundings, which includes the municipalities of St. Gallen, Andwil, Gaiserwald, Gossau, Häggenschwil, Muolen, Waldkirch and Wittenbach. The foundation generally supports the promotion of animal welfare and has a non-profit character. The foundation does not pursue any commercial or profit-oriented purpose. It is politically and denominationally neutral. The foundation can make grants directly to applicants or to existing institutions that are exempt from taxes due to their non-profit and/or public purpose and have a similar purpose and seat in the canton of St. Gallen and adjacent cantons. The foundation can exceptionally make contributions to institutions that do not have their seat in the above-mentioned cantons, if these are used for projects or the care of ownerless, unwanted or distressed animals in the canton of St. Gallen and adjacent cantons. The foundation can rent, lease, own, acquire and sell properties and real estate. It can participate in the renovation, conversion or new construction of business premises that fulfill the foundation's purpose.
