(a) to promote universal recognition of the International Labour Organisation's Conventions Nos. 87 and 98 relating to freedom of association and the protection of the right to organise, and concerning the application of the principles of the right to organise and bargain collectively and other fundamental labour standards and relevant instruments of the organisation; (b) to support the work of the United Nations, its agencies and other intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations when their activities aim to promote peace based on social justice and economic progress; (c) to assist affiliated organisations in defending and promoting, at the international level, the economic, social, professional, educational and cultural interests of their members, including equal opportunities for all, gender equality and the participation of young workers in all ITF activities; (d) to assist affiliated organisations by developing research on issues affecting their members, on working conditions and legislation, trade union organisation and education, collective bargaining and all other matters related to the objectives of the ITF; (e) to assist transport and allied industry workers in defending and promoting their economic, social, professional, educational and cultural interests; (3) to achieve these objectives, the ITF: (a) will establish and maintain close relations between trade unions of transport and allied industry workers, and in particular between its affiliates, at national and international levels; (b) will assist its affiliates in their campaigns to organise non-unionised workers, in their general efforts in the fields of education and legislation, particularly in countries where economic development and nation-building require special efforts in the spirit of international solidarity; (c) will promote and coordinate the implementation of mutual assistance programmes between affiliates in different countries and will assist affiliates involved in conflicts by appropriate means; (d) will claim and exercise the right to represent its affiliates within the International Labour Organisation, intergovernmental agencies and other bodies concerned with transport issues, and to cooperate with these organisations; (e) will cooperate, whenever possible and in a manner conducive to achieving its objectives, with other international trade union federations and with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC); (f) will disseminate information to its affiliates and other interested parties through its publications or other appropriate documentation, and will take the initiative in international activities, which it will coordinate; (g) will assist transport and allied industry workers by providing or helping to provide financial or material assistance.
