In the field of broadcasting, to contribute to the promotion and development of the concept of public service media (i.e. radio, television and other electronic media) and their values, in particular universality, independence, excellence, diversity, accountability and innovation, as set out in the EBU Declaration on the fundamental values of public service media, to the preservation and advancement of freedom of expression and information which is one of the main foundations of a democratic society and an essential condition for its progress and the flourishing of each individual, to the strengthening of media freedom and pluralism, the free flow of information and ideas and the free formation of opinions, to the use and development of information and communication technologies as a means of promoting, beyond borders, the right to express oneself and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas from any source, to the advancement of cultural diversity, dialogue and intercultural exchange with a view to promoting tolerance and solidarity, to the protection and promotion of Europe's cultural heritage and the support of its audiovisual creations by offering an increased choice of programmes and services, to the strengthening of the identity of peoples, social cohesion and the integration of all individuals, groups and communities, to meeting the expectations of the public in the fields of information, education, culture and entertainment, by producing and broadcasting a diverse range of high-quality programmes (cf. statutes for full purpose).
