The association aims to raise awareness in Switzerland and internationally about the socio-economic, political and cultural situation of the inhabitants of villages on the Masoala peninsula in Madagascar, who are directly or indirectly affected by the existence of the Masoala National Park, which was inaugurated in 1997. The long-term goal of the association is to renegotiate the legally valid border of the Masoala National Park and to adequately take into account the needs and rights of the local population. The members of the association share the conviction that the inhabitants of these villages have the right to a self-determined existence in their villages; that the inhabitants of these villages have the right to manage land that belongs to them according to traditional, locally recognized law, and that this right also exists even if no written land ownership documents exist; and that the existence of the Masoala National Park does not abolish these rights.
