The association is an independent, non-profit organization with the purpose of promoting, developing and managing technologies and applications in the field of open source software in the area of blockchain and distributed ledger technology, as well as other related technologies and applications, in order to enable decentralized and open new technological structures. A particular focus is on strengthening and supporting the IOTA ecosystem and its associated technologies and applications. The association's activities include supporting the IOTA Foundation, promoting the IOTA Tangle network, building and further developing the Assembly protocol based on the IOTA Mainnet, as well as supporting the Shimmer network. The association's activities also include software development, community and ecosystem development, interest representation, training, takeover, maintenance and support in the field of cryptography-based decentralized software protocols and architectures. The association can carry out all activities in Switzerland and abroad and take all measures necessary and suitable for the fulfillment of its purpose or directly or indirectly related to the purpose. To promote the association's purpose, the association can acquire, hold, license and dispose of intellectual property rights or commercial property, as well as issue tokens. The association can grant loans, grants, subsidies or other forms of financing or securities (for consideration or free of charge) to direct or indirect subsidiaries or third parties. The association does not aim to make a profit. If profits are generated despite this, they will be used for investments in the association's goals. The association's funds may only be used for the purposes specified in the statutes. The distribution of the association's assets among the members is excluded.
