The purpose of the foundation is to acquire, preserve, operate and restore objects of homeland, monument and nature conservation. The objects are to be preserved and used in their unique character as an expression of their time, a region or function, including their environment. Particular emphasis shall be placed on preserving worthy facilities, buildings and replicas of historical and current railway operations (local, national and international) and researching and documenting the development of the railway with its role for the homeland and its integration into nature. The foundation can award scholarships for research projects in the sense of the foundation's purpose, support the publication of information within the framework of the foundation's purpose, and acquire, take over and establish collections. The foundation shall make the objects accessible to the public and, in particular, to interested schoolchildren, people with disabilities and seniors. The foundation shall enrich the pedagogical and cultural offer, especially but not exclusively in the canton of Zurich, with its objects and activities. The foundation can acquire and sell real estate. The foundation does not pursue any commercial or self-help purposes.
