The cooperative aims to provide its members with affordable housing through mutual self-help and to permanently remove it from speculation. The cooperative builds, rents and sells affordable housing primarily to its members. To this end, it can acquire, encumber and sell plots of land. When selling real estate, the cooperative ensures that the buyer cannot engage in speculative transactions. To this end, it can reserve pre-emption, purchase and co-determination rights. The cooperative maintains its buildings in good structural condition and renovates them periodically. The living space and the number of users should be in a reasonable proportion to each other. The cooperative can participate in companies with the same or similar objectives and acquire membership in umbrella organizations of non-profit building cooperatives.
