The most important points at a glance

UV sealing is a UV-cured PU surface coating for floor coverings. It allows the floor to be usable again after a short curing time and is especially sensible when durability, hygiene and ease of maintenance are more important than an open-pore appearance. For heavily frequented project areas and for coverings such as parquet or linoleum, this is often the most pragmatic solution. It is also an interesting option for other floor coverings such as PVC coverings, ceramics or epoxy resin floors in many cases.

We at INEVO repeatedly see the same goal conflict in projects: The floor should look natural, but require as little maintenance as possible during operation. Exactly at this point, the sealing decision not only determines the optics but also maintenance, downtime and value retention.

When is UV sealing worth it for floor coverings?

The solution is especially suitable where floors are frequently subject to heavy use: in hospitals, schools, hotels, retail spaces, office buildings, nursing homes and public facilities. It is also interesting for operators with high hygiene requirements or a desire to reduce maintenance costs. The decisive factor is not the pure material wish, but the actual use in the object.

  • Highly frequented areas with high cleaning needs
  • Objects with short windows for maintenance work
  • Areas where value retention and durability take priority
  • Floor coverings that must be usable again quickly after a renovation

For which floor coverings is UV sealing suitable?

CoveringSuitabilityTypical preparation
ParquetVery suitable, especially for high wearOld parquet floors are pre-sanded; color adjustments are possible
LinoleumVery suitable, especially for achieving high hygiene and chemical resistanceDeep cleaning, neutralization, repair of damaged areas, existing design or new design with PU-Color
Other coverings such as PVC, ceramic or epoxy resinVery suitable to achieve optimum resistance and ease of careCleaning, grinding or touching up depending on material and condition
New coveringsVery suitableDirect coating after proper preparation
Old, worn coveringsVery suitableCleaning, grinding or touching up depending on material and condition
Applications and preparation by covering type

What many underestimate at first: UV sealing is not only a surface technology for new floors. Especially for existing parquet and linoleum coverings, it can be an economical solution because the floor is not replaced but targetedly upgraded.

Where does the solution not fit?

If the aim is as natural and open-pored wood appearance as possible, another surface finish is often more suitable. Also where the floor does not have to meet high loads or special hygiene requirements, UV sealing is not necessarily the first choice. The strength of this solution clearly lies in the functional surface, not in the unchanged raw material impression.

What you should pay attention to

If you are only looking for a decorative refresh of the floor, you should also check other options. UV sealing is worthwhile when the floor should perform well in everyday use, i.e., under high load, frequent cleaning or tight schedules.

How does UV sealing work at INEVO?

From our practice it becomes clear: the more precisely the condition and use of a covering are clarified in advance, the more targeted and efficiently the renovation can be planned and implemented. At INEVO the process begins with a careful assessment of the existing covering. Depending on the material, cleaning, grinding or targeted repair work follow, before the coating with INEVO UV-Tech. The renovation of an existing covering with subsequent UV sealing can be completed within two days. This makes this technology particularly interesting—especially where short downtime is required.

  1. Analysis of the covering and intended use
  2. Preparation depending on material, e.g., grinding for parquet or deep cleaning for linoleum
  3. Repair of damaged areas
  4. Application of the coating. If desired, a PU-Color coating can be applied before the transparent UV sealing (possible on linoleum, PVC, ceramic and other coverings).
  5. Curing with intensive UV light on site
  6. Immediate re-use after completion
In the new building of the Kehl elderly center in Baden, the BodenPfleger sealed about 1,500 m2 of parquet floors with INEVO UV-Tech. The specially UV-cured PU surface coating makes the floor very easy to care for, durable and highly resistant to dirt, chemicals and scratches for years.

The common expectation is that such a coating necessarily leads to long downtimes. In practice, the opposite is more relevant: the floor can be used again immediately, which makes the biggest difference in ongoing operation.

What does UV sealing cost?

The costs for UV sealing are assessed individually based on local conditions. Key factors include the condition and type of the existing covering, the area to be treated and the necessary preparatory and renovation effort. A tailored offer is prepared after an on-site visit. For older, heavily used coverings, cost savings are usually achieved compared to a new installation - while also being a more sustainable solution.

Frequently asked questions

Does the floor remain natural enough after UV sealing?
That depends on the target image. UV sealing can also achieve a very natural floor look. If you want an open-pored, very original wood appearance, you often prefer a different surface. If you want a as resistant and easy-care surface, UV sealing provides a technically clear solution.
Can older floors be treated as well?
Yes, this is explicitly possible. Old parquet coverings are usually pre-sanded, linoleum and other coverings are deeply cleaned, neutralized and damaged areas are repaired if needed. Hence the method is suitable not only for new builds but also for renovations.
How quickly is the surface usable again?
The floor is immediately walkable and load-bearing after curing. This makes the solution attractive for businesses that must minimize downtime. Unlike classic maintenance windows, there is no long shutdown. A renovation including UV sealing can be completed within two days.
Can designs or inscriptions be integrated?
Yes. For linoleum and other coverings, new colors and designs with PU-Color are possible. Icons, symbols or company logos can also be integrated. This is especially interesting when function and wayfinding in the building are combined with the surface.
Is renovation cheaper than new installation?
Yes, typically renovation with subsequent UV sealing is cheaper and more sustainable.

For projects with high frequency, tight schedules, and clear hygiene requirements, UV sealing at INEVO is a robust solution. If you are looking for a durable surface for your property with short downtime, a professional on-site assessment is worthwhile.
