The foundation's purpose is to provide occupational pension, survivors' and disability insurance. It protects the employees and employers of the companies affiliated with it (hereinafter referred to as "employers") against the economic consequences of loss of earnings due to old age, death and disability, in accordance with its regulations. It provides benefits in accordance with the provisions on compulsory occupational pension provision and also offers pension plans that exceed the minimum requirements of the law or only include non-mandatory benefits. Self-employed individuals can also join the foundation as part of a professional association's pension solution, as can employers with their boards of directors. The foundation operates a separate pension fund for each affiliated employer. For professional association pension solutions, joint pension funds are operated instead. The foundation is mainly active in Western Switzerland.
