The association's work is non-profit. The goal is to preserve and revalue the endangered diversity of livestock breeds and crop plants in mountainous regions. The efforts focus primarily on breeds and varieties that are particularly noteworthy for genetic and cultural-historical reasons. These are to be preserved in the form of living stocks. The association supports network partners and promotes conservation projects in the Alpine region and the marketing of products from old breeds, and can create and provide trademarks for this purpose. Means of achieving the association's purpose also include information and awareness-raising.
