The primary purpose of IKA TBOS is to supply end-consumers in the member municipalities with high-quality drinking, utility, and firefighting water. To this end, it operates and maintains regional and local facilities and pipelines, in particular the fine distribution network. Together with its members and third parties, it ensures the optimal management of all used water resources. To fulfill this purpose, IKA TBOS can build or acquire additional facilities such as water treatment plants, groundwater and spring water intakes, reservoirs, and conclude water supply contracts with third parties. The public-law-defined sovereign tasks in water supply are performed by IKA TBOS. The members transfer the corresponding competencies to IKA TBOS during their membership on a permanent and irrevocable basis. IKA TBOS can establish companies under public and private law (subsidiaries) or participate in other companies, provided this is in line with its purpose, business objectives, and owner strategy. IKA TBOS can acquire and sell real estate and enter into all transactions and contracts that are suitable to fulfill its purpose. Furthermore, IKA TBOS can take on additional business areas with a public character (such as construction departments, waste management, wastewater, forestry, etc.), provided this is compatible with the owner strategy and financing is independent of water supply. The responsibility for performing public tasks, including the exercise of sovereign powers, remains with the respective municipalities; they act as clients towards IKA TBOS; the scope of services and conditions are defined by performance agreements. The institution provides the necessary personnel and operating resources. It can commission qualified third parties to fulfill its tasks. Within its areas of activity, the institution can provide services to third parties.
