The purpose of the foundation is to provide financial assistance for the education of children, adolescents and young adults from financially disadvantaged backgrounds in the founding cantons of the Swiss Confederation, Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden (consisting of Obwalden and Nidwalden). The foundation helps those affected directly upon request through one-time or recurring support contributions, assumption of training costs, costs for specialist literature and training materials, contributions to travel expenses, accommodation and food for training outside the canton of residence or through interest-free, repayable training loans after taking up employment, with repayment rates and duration adjusted to the personal circumstances after taking up employment. The foundation board may, at its own discretion, waive partial or full repayment of training loans. The foundation may also support or finance further education of eligible persons in accordance with paragraph 1 in the same way as described in paragraph 2. The foundation may also support other institutions and third-party initiatives with the same objective.
