The cooperative aims to provide its members with affordable housing on a communal basis and for mutual self-help, excluding any speculative intent. To this end, the cooperative can acquire and sell plots of land and rights thereto, build, purchase, and sell houses and apartments, manage and rent them. The sale to cooperative members is possible and is decided by the general assembly. Such a sale excludes resale for speculative purposes. To the extent that the living space is not used by the cooperative itself, it has the right to repurchase it. The cooperative can claim housing construction and ownership promotion subsidies from the federal government, canton, and municipality. It can participate in companies with the same or similar objectives and acquire membership in umbrella organizations of non-profit building cooperatives.
