The COLON Foundation aims to support research with the goal of preventing colon cancer through knowledge of molecular genetic mechanisms and their causes that lead to the development of colon cancer, as well as promoting and/or financing projects that investigate and identify the earliest pathophysiological changes in the development of colon cancer. In this context, the foundation also aims to research the molecular biological aging processes of the intestinal mucosa. Furthermore, the foundation aims to develop molecular genetic methods for detecting early cancer-specific changes as a means of early detection and prevention of colon cancer, and in selected situations, to research similar molecular biological processes in other gastrointestinal tumors.
